About Alperton
Alperton is a suburb in the London Borough of Brent, North West London and located in postal district HA0. Dominated by the Ealing Road, which is the backbone of the area, it contains two schools, a conferencing facility and Alperton tube station at the southern end of Ealing Road. The north end of Ealing Road terminates at Wembley High Road. The Grand Union Canal runs through the heart of Alperton. Allen and Young Ltd carry out all moving services including removals, man and van, storage, packing and house clearance in the Alperton area.
Ealing Road is the heart of Alperton, comprising of Indian and Pakistani restaurants as well as general goods outdoor stalls, similar to those at the Sunday Market. Traditional fruit and veg outlets also operate from Ealing road where the locals come to buy exotic fruit and veg not normally available in supermarkets all year round.
Alperton is also the home of many “curry pubs” started by early immigrants from the east in the 1990s. Many other successful businesses were birthed from Alperton such as Chicken Cottage and Dosa Corner. Chicken Cottage started as a small chicken shop which expanded and eventually opened branches all over the UK.
If Ealing Road is the heart of Alperton then the community is the soul. Alperton’s community from the 70s through to early 2000s was predominantly of Asian ethnicity. It was a buzzing hub of eastern tradition and values. Nowadays the traditions and values have diluted and intertwined with values and traditions of British culture.
Alperton today has probably one of the most diverse communities in the UK. In present day people of African, Indian, Polish, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lanken or Caribbean backgrounds all enjoy life together in Alperton.
One particular event which takes place on Ealing Road is the Divali parade. The Divali parade is a parade similar to Carnival, which takes place in West London. Many celebrities in the past, such as Michael Jackson and Jackie Chan, have come to the parade to celebrate and perform the closing speech before the fireworks display.
